Contemporary Architecture. Material arrangement. Occasional birdhouse.
Tom Hurt’s practice is marked by unusual material choices, radical breaks in traditional architectural geometry, surprising forms, a devoted client base, absolute humility and a charming dry wit.
Tom also spent 5 years in Germany, honing his craft with the legendary Behnisch & Partners, in Stuttgart before starting his own practice.
Our rebrand puts the focus back on Tom (away from the problematic old name “Hurt Partners”) expressing the idiosyncrasy, functionality, complexity, simplicity, humility and over-the-top formal gestures that sum the extremes found in the firm’s work.
The strategic decision to develop a “material archive” on the website came from a single, humble statement in Tom’s interviews: “There is a set amount of material needed to build a given structure. I just arrange it a certain way.”
Note our homage to the legendary Helmut Schmid in the precisely misalignedtypography that rounds out the printed identity system.
