The Truth

Some projects don’t require great explanation. When we received Joe’s final masters and the album title “Nothing hurts like the truth”, we set about considering other things that hurt, and debating the ethical merits of the truth vs. the fact that it is often problematic at best, deadly at worst.

So, our truth:
_We drew a number of concepts, the one Joe chose was a last minute inclusion.
_It was the last minute inclusion, because it was the result of finding no solid design direction in the title or record that felt right for the package.
_The process of self rejecting so many options led us to feel punished, and to literally sit and scribble “nothing hurts like the truth” over and over, like grade school punishment.
_Joe loved it.
_We felt our admiration for Cy Twombly peeking through, and followed suit. The rest of the package panels are destructive “canvas” moves more akin to auto-drawing exercises. Cathartic for the studio.
_The album was produced by none other than Jeremy Casella.
_the type is a special face by Jack Usine in France for the Smeltery.

The record is available on iTunes, and direct from the artist.
