The bubbly motif on the cover was inspired by Wassily Kandinsky (or Василий Кандинский) a Russian painter at the turn of the last millenium. Kandinsky painted some of the first modern abstract works, and if you don’t know him, he is arguably one of the most famous 20th-century abstract artists. Our point of departure was to work in rich hues using blues and whites for accent, upending the standard “sea” imagery.
As the package developed, we moved our cover art abstraction into the silhouette of a sea bird inside, hoping to balance highly complex and abstract work with extremely simplified figurative forms. {In addition to this package, and others by FÖDA Studio, Alli will also be carrying mp3 download cards with the seabird of rings on it—a new way to buy music at the show.}
